Technology Enriched Teaching - Lesson Plan

This is for a writing prompt in the course: Teach English Now! Technnology Enriched Teaching by Arizona State University through Coursera.

Based on the objective(s) and technology tool that you chose related to reading, writing, grammar, listening, speaking, or pronunciation, create a lesson plan that includes technology. Create a lesson plan that follows the template attached.

Fill out the lesson plan template with your activities for a 50-60 minute lesson plan for a technology-enriched lesson and save it for later. In the "My Submission" box, copy and paste the text of your lesson plan to submit for this peer-reviewed assignment. Be sure to include all components and clearly label them for the peer reviewer assessing your lesson plan. If you need help, ask for help in the discussion boards.


Lesson Plan (Intermediate) - Grammar Lesson (sentence structure)

Technology to be used: Kahoot!

Devices: Teacher's Computer, Students' Phones

Lesson Objective:

  • Students will be able to understand the meaning of some unfamiliar words in a sentence.

  • Students will be able to classify different types of sentences according to its use.

  • Students will be able to construct different types of sentences.

  • Students will be able to create short skit script - using different types of sentences

 

Warm-Activity

  • T will give the code for the Kahoot! game.

  • T will discuss the mechanics of the game.

  • T will present a practice slideshow (3 questions) before proceeding to the actual game.

  • T will give the code for the real Kahoot! game to be used for the warm-up activity.

  • T will present a slideshow of sentences and quiz the S about the unfamiliar words through Kahoot!

  • S will choose the meaning and select the right answer using their phones.

  • S in the roster will be granted plus points in the next tests.

 

Objective Discussion

  • After the warm-up activity, T will emphasize the different types of sentences used in the questionnaire for the Kahoot!

  • T will explain that in today’s lesson, S will identify and classify the different types of sentences.

  • T will present a video story (with subtitles) and S will classify each sentences on their journals.

  • T will then explain that after their Guided Practice, they will grouped into 3 people and they will create a script for a skit to be performed/read out loud at the end of the lesson.

 

Instruct & Model / Guided Practice

  • T will explain the different types of sentences and what are key identifiers in making and identifying them.
    • Declarative Sentences - sentences that tell something, making a statement.
    • Interrogative Sentences - sentences that asking questions
    • Imperative Sentences - sentences that tell people commands
    • Exclamatory Sentences - sentences that shows strong feeling or emotions.
  • T will show examples and guide the students as they attempt to create their own sentences.
  • After the discussion and practice, T will show a video with captions, asking S to open their journals and classify sentences that shown within the story.
  • S should list at least 3 sentences for each sentence type.
  • Class will discuss the sentences presented in the video, one by one

Independent Practice

  • For independent practice, T will group the class with 3 members each.
  • The groups will be given time to huddle and create a story/skit of their own - writing the script as they go.
  • The scripts should be recorded in each of their journals for checking.

Assessment

  • S will label the sentences they created as a group individually.

  • S will perform the skits that they made and T will evaluate each sentence has the correct intonation intended for each sentences. S will be graded individually

    • 100 points - all sentences created and said by S has correct intonation and correct label
    • 90 points - all sentences has correct intonation, more than 75% has correct label / correct labels, more than 75% correct intonation
    • 80 points - sentences created are more than 75% correct label/intonation
    • 70 points - sentences created are less than 75% but more than 50% correct label/intonation
    • 60 points - sentences created are less than 50% correct label/intonation
