Capstone Project 1 - Objectives and Possible Assessments

This is for a writing prompt in the course: Teach English Now! Capstone Project 1 by Arizona State University through Coursera.

Write two or three lesson objectives for that theme. Ideally, the theme should build upon the lesson plan you created in Course 3. Fill out the "lesson objectives" section of the lesson plan template and save it for later.

After writing the lesson objectives, suggest one or two methods for assessing the objectives at the end of the lesson. What kind of meaningful project could be used? Explain how students would show their learning.

LESSON 1

✅ BASIC

Lesson Objectives:

  • Students will be able to identify the basic parts of simple speech (subject, verbs, object) and will be able to answer W-H questions.

  • Students will be able to answer 5 simple sentences in a correct sentence structure.

  • Students will be able to create at least a 10-sentence journal entry introducing their family members at the end of the lesson to demonstrate their understanding.

Possible Assessment:

  • Teacher will check the sentence structure that the students used in answering W-H questions.

  • Each day, the teacher will give out a five-point practice quiz for students to know how to create sentences. After each quiz, the teacher will make time for students to write a journal entry which will be graded individually and collected by the end of the week for their writing portfolio.

  • Teacher will create a rubric for peer review and teacher evaluation for the students’ journal entry.

    • Rubric will be graded by “excellent”, “fair” and “needs improvement”
    • Grading criteria will include: main idea, sentence flow, grammar and word choice.
