This is for a writing prompt in the course: Teach English Now! Listening, Speaking and Pronunciation by Arizona State University through Coursera.
Choose an English audio or video clip you think will interest your learners--it can be a news report, a 5-10 minute scene from a movie or TV show, a recording of a story, etc. Be creative and choose a listening selection that you'd enjoy teaching about. Share why you think this listening selection would be appropriate for your learners.
Then, list the following information:
What is the age of the students you are planning this listening passage for?
Describe your students' language proficiency.
List the title and speaker(s) or characters (if fiction) of the listening.
Discuss why you think this listening would be appropriate for your learners.
The age and level of my students with this lesson is the same one as the for the Reading/Writing lesson. Students will be ranging from junior high school to senior high school and language proficiency will be basic to intermediate. Student’s learning paces may vary but I’ll try to cater to the average pace so no one will be left behind and no one will be too bored in class either. A good diagnostic exam will be good to determine the average proficiency of the class.
The listening material that I’d be using will be from TED-Ed as it features interesting topics and with the graphics and the way the narrators convey the message, it will surely pique the student’s attention and will hold it from the beginning until the end. The topics can vary from literature to science and technology.
