This is for a writing prompt in the course: Teach English Now! Technnology Enriched Teaching by Arizona State University through Coursera.
In this module, you learned about the SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition) model. Remember that it is a model designed to examine how integrating technology changes a learning task, and hopefully improves the learning experience. Now, we'd like for you to consider the different stages of the SAMR model in relation to the technology tool that you've decided to use and HOW you've decided to use it.
Which stage would your technology tool fall into with the way you've decided to use it? Please be sure to give a brief description of how you plan to use it for your peer reviewer.
Look at the other stages of the SAMR and describe another way you could use the technology tool in a different stage.
Link to the technology that I'd be using - Kahoot!
1. In the SAMR model, I would use the technology I picked in Substitution - instead of the traditional pen & paper pop quiz, I would use Kahoot! to do it in a fun way with friendly competition.
Kahoot! is a technology where I can set the questions and the answers on my end beforehand. This also utilizes a timer and would give extra points depending on speed as well as correct streaks. The participants would be able to see their scores after every question and it would be fun how unpredictable the scores will be.
2. Kahoot! would be a good Modification tool through letting them use the tool to create their own quizzes (both questions & answers). Since Kahoot! works game-show style and there should be choices, it will challenge the students on how to provide different answers.
Substitution by removing the paper & pen tool. Modification by letting the students practice creating questionnaires instead of just creating practice sentences.
For example:
Instruction - Create a 5-point sentence quiz regarding the S-V-A that we have discussed. The questions will be collected and will serve as a practice quiz for the class
**Students' goal is to make the wrong answers be subtle.
Q: Which of these sentences is correct:
- Neither my dad nor my brother knows how to ski.
- Neither my dad or my brother knows how to ski.
- Either my dad or my brother knows how to ski.
- Neither my dad nor my brother know how to ski
